WHERE WE WORK

AI, data and technology executive search for complex organisations.

Lucent works primarily with established organisations across the UK where technology change has to happen alongside existing operations, legacy systems, regulation, governance and pressure to perform.

Across these organisations, AI, data and technology investment has to produce results without losing sight of the operations, controls and services the business already depends on.

Senior executives walking through a modern corporate headquarters

Technology leadership carries particular weight when decisions affect large operations, physical or financial assets, customers, regulators and significant investment.

Senior leaders in these environments need to do more than set a technology agenda. They need to understand the business, work across organisational boundaries, make choices about where to invest and make progress within real operational constraints.

SECTORS LUCENT SERVES

Different sectors. Similar pressures.

Public Bodies & Heavily Governed Institutions

Organisations where technology change has to work through complex governance, procurement, public accountability and multiple stakeholder groups.

Water, Waste & Environmental Services

Asset-intensive organisations where technology, data and AI can affect operations, customer service, investment decisions and regulatory performance.

Telecommunications

Organisations combining large technology estates, physical infrastructure, customer platforms and constant pressure to modernise while maintaining reliability.

Transport & Infrastructure

Operators across airports, ports, rail, logistics and wider infrastructure where technology leadership influences resilience, asset performance, customer experience and operational delivery.

Engineering, Manufacturing & Industrials

Businesses where technology is embedded in operations and where leaders may need to work across legacy systems, operational data, automation, AI and the practical realities of production and commercial performance.

Energy

Organisations operating complex energy assets and services where technology, data, automation and AI need to work alongside operational reliability, investment cycles and governance.

Financial Services, Insurance & Wealth Management

Banks, insurers, wealth and asset managers, specialist lenders and other financial-services organisations where technology, data and AI decisions sit alongside regulation, risk, customer outcomes and complex legacy environments.

Organisations where technology change has to work through complex governance, procurement, public accountability and multiple stakeholder groups.

What scale and complexity were they dealing with?

What constraints existed?

How did they work across the business?

What did they personally change?

Which parts of that experience are genuinely transferable?

WHAT LUCENT LOOKS AT

Which experience is genuinely relevant?

Sector labels are a starting point. Lucent looks at the conditions in which somebody has actually delivered:

SECTOR EXPERIENCE

Does the right executive need to come from the same sector?

Not always.

Sector experience matters when it gives somebody genuinely relevant knowledge of the environment, but an identical industry background is not automatically the best predictor of success.

A CTO who has worked in a fast-moving software company may face a very different challenge inside an industrial group with legacy infrastructure and operational technology.

An executive from another regulated or asset-intensive environment may bring highly relevant experience of working through similar constraints. The test is whether their experience transfers to the conditions and outcomes of the role.

In a complex organisation, strong technology leaders connect technical decisions to business priorities and can make progress through the constraints of the operating environment. They understand where legacy systems, regulation, governance, investment cycles or operational risk will shape what is realistically possible.

Technical credibility matters, but so do judgement, commercial understanding and the ability to work across the organisation. The relevant evidence is the scale of change somebody has led, the decisions they personally owned, the functions they had to influence and the results they delivered under comparable conditions.
